"There is a bit of insanity in dancing that does everybody a great deal of good."
Carolina Ravaioli first met the art of teaching as one of the
Modules of her BA in Contemporary Dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. Once she relocated in Scotland, she was brought to lead a few company classes as part of her dance residences at Dance Base (National Centre for Dance In Scotland), which made her realize her enthusiasm for teaching as well as its benefits for her dance practice. In November 2016 she was asked from Dance Base to teach Contemporary Beginners for the whole month, which was very successful and created a high demand for her teaching.
Her teaching style is influenced by a wide range of dance techniques such as Cunningham, Release and Floor Work, to list some which help to develop body alignment, balance, coordination, dynamic, and strength. Moreover, she finds important for her students to learn performance skills that improve their body and space awareness as well as their relationship with each other.
Students will learn to move in a more efficient way while getting their self-confidence going. A great amount of sweat and fun is to be expected!
Her big concern as a dance teacher is to develop a practice that leads people closer to dance and closer to each other. She believes Dance can be a very accessible activity more than a practice "for a few". Looking back at her very first dance training in Italy, her hometown, she found it extremely strong technically speaking but rather dangerous in terms of body image and natural body structure awareness, especially among young people. She believes Dance should be an activity that enhances your distinctiveness, creativity, self-expression, and self-confidence. She also believes that it is essential to gain a deep understanding of our body and mind in the world, with others and within ourselves. Dance can be a moment for you to explode of joy, self-esteem, and togetherness!
